A few random glimpses into another awesome week…
·
Saturday we visited Subi- one of Watoto’s
children’s villages. Us 360 students
arrived at Subi around 10:00, were split into pairs of two, and sent to spend
the morning with one family. I ended up
in a house full of girls- eight of them, to be exact. The youngest was 13, and the oldest around
20. They were very welcoming, and we had
a great time playing cards and just learning about each other. I learned that next time I go to the village,
I should go hungry, because they loved cooking for us visitors! After two breakfasts and a big lunch, I
thought I might explode. Don’t worry… I
didn’t. Probably the best part of the
visit to the village was a little girl who wandered into the house where I
was. She didn’t say more than two words
the whole time I was there, but we had fun laughing together, holding hands as
we walked around the village, and playing a “game” of cards. She would deal them out, and whichever of us
ran out first won. Interestingly, I was
always dealt a much larger pile of cards than her…

This week all of us 360 students were placed
into one of five teams. We will be
working with our teams when we go out for ministry, and each team was also
assigned a specific church campus to serve at on Sunday mornings. Watoto has five major church campuses which (also
known as celebration points). Central is
the main church, and is located right downtown.
The others are North, South, East, and West, which are located farther
out in Kampala and the surrounding area.
My team was assigned to Watoto East.
On Sunday morning we toured the celebration points and met the
administrators who we will be working with.
It was so much fun to see all of the different celebration points and to
get a feel for where we will be working.
Personally, I think Watoto East is the best, but maybe I’m a little
biased.

After our tour, my housemates and I decided to
go out for lunch. Who would have thought
that I could say I spent a Sunday afternoon in a restaurant, on top of a mall,
during a rainstorm, in Africa, eating Indian food. So random.
The verdict- it was good! Mexican
food is still better though.

Okay. So
last night I was sitting on my bed, when all of a sudden a little intruder ran
out from under my roommate’s bed and into the closet. Let me just say… I HATE MICE. In a matter of a few seconds, everyone who
lives in our house was in or outside of my room, laughing and trying to figure
out where the mouse went. There were
lots of screams, lots of laughs, and a punch or two when someone (I wont name names *cough cough* Jack…) decided to throw a
sock at me. Seriously, the sock did look
like a mouse. Anyway, a lovely trap was
built in Danielle and I’s room in an effort to kill the mouse, which then
mysteriously showed up in the kitchen an hour or so later. More screaming, more laughing… you can
imagine.
Looking forward to another week of memories!
Love Always.
Hi Callie,
ReplyDeleteI did say a prayer for both the families you mentioned, for you and your team. It is a joy to be with you in part through your posts. Thanks for sharing. We miss you much, but appreciate your willingness to go. May God bless you in big ways- and know that we are praying for you often. Love in Christ, PJ
